Dear Students, Parents, and Families,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. I look forward to having your child in my class. Their enthusiasm and energy offers great challenges and I look forward to my year with your family. I want this year to be a happy as well as a meaningful one for you and your child. I am looking forward to working with you as partners in your child’s education. The first few weeks of school will be dedicated to establishing routines in our classroom community. Research shows that this time is well spent as we create an atmosphere of respect, cooperation and accountability. The end result is a greater gain in academic achievement. We will discuss our responsibilities to ourselves and as members of our class. During this time, I will also assess the children in their math skills through beginning of the year benchmark assessment and weekly quizzes. The information gathered will help me to tailor the curriculum to fit your child’s needs. We will begin to establish math routines and procedures for the school year to make sure every student at TCDS is successful.
TCDS Middle School will be using Standards Based Grading this year. Assessment, grading, and record keeping are among the most important tasks a classroom teacher performs. These processes help me determine what and how well students have learned and serve as a vehicle for providing feedback about student learning to parents and students. The goal of a standards –based approach is to clearly communicate to students and parents what is expected of students and how to help them be successful in their educational journey. More about this as we progress through the year.
I will provide the math notebooks students are required to have with them every day for my class. All mathematicians will be required to bring additional supplies directly to their math classroom. They need at least 6 blue or black dry erase markers and one ream of copy paper, please.
I am very excited. We are going to have an amazing year! Please feel free to contact me any time you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Linda St. Louis
